    Female Genital Mutilation

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is defined as:

"All procedures which include the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to female genital organs for non-medical reasons."

The ritual of FGM is carried out mainly in North African countries, parts of Asia, the Middle East, and among scattered communities around the world.

There are no health benefits to FGM. It is abuse of the human rights of women & girls and it is illegal in the UK to prepare, send or take you to another country for this reason.

If you are worried or concerned that you are going to be taken abroad for the sole purpose of FGM you can speak to the safeguarding team, located near G17 / ICT Technicians Workroom, or talk to your PYL or AYL who will inform Safeguarding staff.
